Post #3 The debatable title about "The Book of Negroes"
I think "The Book of Negroes" is a great title for this book and though some people burnt this cover just to show the dissatisfaction against this title and some countries changed the book's name in their country. First of all, the author of this book is Lawrence Hill. He is half black. This is nothing you can do about a black guy calling people who have the same color skin as him "Negroes". It would be offensive if you are white or asian and you call them negroes . Secondly, I believe that the reason why Lawrence Hill set this title is not to make the book attractive for the readers. Conversely, it draws the attention to racism, which should not but still exist in this world. The title reflects the truth in the world. People know racism is illegal but it happens every day. At last, if you read the book, you will know theme of this book is positive. It is more about fight for freedom. Some countries' censorship changed the name of this book. It is wise for them to consider that it might raise the racial problems in their countries and tell the public they did well to deal with these problems. For the people burnt these covers, they did right thing, too. What they did seems directly and personally attack the author. In fact, they were against the racism. I do not want to change the name unless the racism disappear from this world entirely. If I have to make up a new name for this book, I think "a bloody, black free dream in 18th century" is suitable.

- In the Trenches
- The Suitcase Lady
- 51-Percent Minority
There is no doubt that " In the Trenches" is my favorite essay. There are three reasons for it. First of all, the style of writing makes me interested in the essay. The author used a lot of rhetorical devices. The way he used the these devices have shocked me. For example, " I taste salty liquid on my lips"(Harrison 112). He tasted blood actually. But he used simile, compared blood with the salty liquid, making it like slow motion in the film and giving readers a shocking mentally. Secondly, the schedule is dramatic. The author gave flashback when he was in danger. It is smooth for the someone who is close to death to think of home, as some famous directors did in the movies. It created the picture for readers to imagine. What's more, the theme that the essay expresses is very positive. It convey the war's cruelty and soldier's homesickness to the readers. It is a perfect antiwar article.

Hello all
I am Chao Zhao. I am interested
in watching TV shows, playing basketball and traveling. I like reading
biographies like "Jobs" and "Napoleons". I also like to
read scientific magazines. Recently, I have been in love with light novel, which is a
new kind of popular fiction in Asia area. They are called light novels because
they have shining points and they are usually short. The background is set up
by very small paragraph. The light novel often has amazing end. It is easy to
get inside the emotions that author wants to bring to you and get out of it
quickly because they are short. This is advantage of light novel. I want
to achieve over 75 in the English Class this year. As an ESL, it might be
difficult for me. But I will try as possible as I can.
